Mission Statement
Carnegie Art Cornerstones (Carnegie Art Museum Cornerstones) mission is to promote creativity, learning & growth in the careers of artists, and to inspire passion & appreciation for arts & culture in Oxnard and Southern CA.
Please donate to our Annual Fund Drive so Carnegie Art Cornerstones can remain vigilant in preserving the Carnegie Art Museum legacy and remain committed to supporting important art and artist development projects in our region.
This next year will be critical in our effort to preserve the Permanent Collection and reopen the Carnegie Art Museum!
In 2024 we continued to advance the career growth of artists and expand appreciation for arts and culture in Oxnard and Southern California. The Cornerstones is pleased to report:
We joined forces with the Save Oxnard’s Art Committee and embarked on a campaign to educate the city council members on the need to preserve both the collection and the museum as a rare cultural, educational and financial resource in the community. Ongoing meetings with new council members and mayor will continue post-election to push for a collaboration to create a public-private partnership with financing to ensure access to the art for the local community and the region at large.
Since its reopening in August 2023, the McNish Gallery at Oxnard College, aided by our $25,000 contribution to its renovation, has had numerous exhibits of student art and increased student access to professional art.
|
We launched a public survey (in response to the City of Oxnard’s proposal to not reopen the Carnegie as an Art Museum and not retain the Permanent Art Collection) that has shown overwhelming support for reopening and even expanding the museum.
Our January 2024 student art contest and exhibit, Emerging, provided recognition and cash awards to encourage the creativity of area college freshmen & sophomores, and high school students in the Oxnard and Ventura School Districts. The artwork of 35 students was viewed by the artists, their families, and community members at the Channel Islands Maritime Museum where they received their awards. The show was open to the public for the duration.

We continued to fund art student scholarships through the Ventura College and CSUCI Foundations.
